Young people who have lost or are at risk of losing parental care often find the transition from school to starting a career particularly challenging as they cannot count on the networks, resources or guidance that their peers may have access to.
SOS Children's Villages in Kenya together with partners and the young people have been developing innovative ways to ensure a confident transition into independence. Our youth empowerment program provides care, nurturing, life skills and employability skills and related support to more than 5,000 youth in Kenya. Despite the effects of the global pandemic, the youth department implemented career, job coaching and mentorship for young people. Notable state and non-state partners include DHL, Nailab, Total Kenya, AJIRA, KIBIT and Ministry of Youth Affairs among others.
